A year after moving to Israel, I flew back to the Netherlands for the travel season. No, the country didn’t scare me away (just yet), Aviya and I went on a holiday. For me, it was the first time going on holiday in my home country, so we were really excited!
BACK HOME – TRAVEL SEASON
For Aviya it was the first time in over a year and a half to come back to the Netherlands and all the family was excited to see her again! Although I do live in Israel and am currently writing this blog from our living room (that I consider home), coming back to the Netherlands does feel like coming back home again.
At the end of the day it is the country where you spend such a big chunk of your life and have been living, working and enjoying. It just holds so many good memories.
During our time we travelled around the Netherlands as much as possible together with my parents and visited some truly Dutch places like Giethoorn, de Zaanse Schans and Burgers Zoo. A separate blog about those places can be found here!
SOME MAGIC
The trip wasn’t only a homecoming, we also used the travel season for a few days in the city of love and the happiest place on earth: Paris and Disneyland Paris.
We did as you can imagine all the highlights of Paris, which included the Eiffel Tower, Les Invalides, Notre Dame, the Seine tour and a bit of shopping. For most people, this might not sound like many things to see and do, but we just love wandering around Paris and walking through the beautiful streets and seeing the amazing architecture.
Paris is a magical city, but not as magical as Disneyland Paris! As the holiday season was over in Europe, it meant we had the park almost empty. It was amazing to go to all the attractions with no lines, meet our favourite characters and enjoy every magical moment.

HOLIDAY SEASON
The whole month there have been different holidays taking place in Israel. The first one was early September and is called Rosh Hashanah. This is the Jewish New Year, as they got their own calendar.
Then there was Yom Kippur. Which is the day that Jewish people are fasting and is the holiest of days in Judaism. It is a day of atonement and repentance. Because we were having a good time travelling, we missed these two, but we got back in time for Sukkot.
Sukkot stands for the years that the people from Jewish faith spent in the gruelling desert on their way to the Promised Land. It celebrates how God protected them under these tough conditions. Sukkot is a total of 7 days in Israel (8 around the world) and people eat, feast and sometimes sleep in a sort of tent.
OLD INTERVIEWS
Last year, I had the great honour and privilege to interview Whitesnake guitarist Joel Hoekstra! At the time, this interview attracted an incredible amount of readers from all over the world. It may have looked like this was my first interview. However, over 10 years ago I used to have another website called superbikenieuws.nl.
Part of what I loved to do was interview legendary World Superbike riders. And boy oh boy, was I in luck! I interviewed my ultimate hero James Toseland, Leon Haslam and Jonathan Rea to just name a few. I posted a few online on this site as well for you to read!
