Rock icons Queen teamed up with Adam Lambert for an incredible summer festival tour around Europe. One of the stops was a date in Brussels, as they had to cancel the show last year. Luckily, we managed to get some tickets and see this spectacle live.
Originally, I would go with my dad to see KISS in Germany, as a gift for graduating from Graphic Design school. However, KISS cancelled, and we replaced them with Queen + Adam Lambert. Both my dad and I were not too sad with these icons as replacement.
Queen has been a house-hold name since the 70s, and their music was often played growing up. To share the experience with the man that made me like this band was incredible. This night in Brussels was truly a night to remember! Queen + Adam Lambert rocked the night away.
LIVE AT PALAIS 12
Queen started out in 1970 with Freddie Mercury, Brian May, and Roger Taylor, with bassist John Deacon not long after. The band quickly made a name for themselves and by 1975 they took over the world with the hit Bohemian Rhapsody. So many hits followed, and many of them were played live tonight.
With the passing of lead singer Freddie Mercury in 1991 the band went through the difficult decision of stopping as Queen or going on. Thankfully for us, they kept going, but in a very respectful way. These days the band goes on as Queen + Adam Lambert, and it might not come as a surprise, but American singer Adam Lambert joined the band on vocals.
My dad and I came early to the venue and got an amazing spot close to the barrier to experience the show. At exactly 8 o clock, the lights went out and started to light out the curtain that hang before the stage. The opening was amazing with the intro of One Vision. Once the guitar kicked in, we were looking for Brian. Who hid on the right side of the stage with the curtain dropping. It was such a cool experience!
The whole show was basically the greatest hits of Queen live. Hammer to Fall, Seven Seas of Rhye, Stone Cold Crazy and Another One Bites the Dust kept the show going. Adam has a lot of onstage charisma, and he feels like a perfect fit to the band. His campiness is awesome and shines through in many songs, for example with Fat Bottomed Girls and Killer Queen. Like he said himself, there is only one Freddie, but he fitted perfectly in the band.
I can’t stress enough how much energy this performance brought to both my dad and I and the audience! Don’t Stop Me Now, Somebody to Love brought that incredible high spirit energy, before we slowed it down with an emotional rendition of Love of My Life. Brian May on an acoustic guitar and vocals was so powerful, and I had goosebumps when Freddie joined on the screen. What a legendary moment, I’m so glad to witness.
A NIGHT WITH LEGENDS
Roger Taylor kept the beat going all night, apart from A Kind of Magic when he took lead vocals. It was great to see this legendary drummer up close and nail the vocals. What perhaps was even cooler was the drum battle that followed between Roger and his son Rufus Taylor was amazing. Both of them are incredible drummers, and the drum solo was wicked. Under Pressure closed this section of the show perfectly.
