Mrs Brown’s Boys hit the road again with their How Now Mrs Brown’s Cow? live show. I love the TV show, so I was looking forward to how the play would be.
MRS BROWNS BOYS
I’m a comedy man and I like a laugh, so on Thursday night I went to Mrs Brown’s Boys. This is a television series, shown on the BBC, and I really like it. The series is about the family Brown and the main character is Agnes Brown.
She is a foul-mouthed Irish mother and a widow living in Dublin, Ireland. She runs her home with an iron fist as she manages her sons, daughter Kathy and her best friend Winnie. Add Grandad, the various in-laws and grandchildren to the mix and Mrs Brown has her hands full.
Agnes is played by a 57-year-old man called Brendan O’Carroll’s, who is also the creator of this show. To make things more confusing, Brendan’s real wife plays his TV daughter. Mr’s Brown’s best friend is Brendan’s sister, and there is a lot more family that can be found in this show.
What makes this show very different from other shows, is the constant breaking of the 4th wall. The way Agnes interacts with the live studio audience (and arena audience), camera crew and others allows for goofs and glitches which add so much to the experience.
HOW NOW MRS BROWN’S COW
The TV series, however, started out as a radio show, before making it into the theatre. These days the theatre was upgraded to an arena. In the Genting Arena in Birmingham I saw together with over 15 thousand people the show, which lasted little over 2 hours. I honestly enjoyed every single second of this show.
It was very funny! The jokes were so good and the punch line was hit on the right spot every time. Seeing all the incredible parts that make the TV show come to live was awesome. The cast was on fire tonight. After tonight, I hope to visit things like this more often. A sentiment that was shared with the whole crowd as when the show finished the crew and cast got a standing ovation.
