FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK, AC/DC, I SALUTE YOU

ac/dc

AC/DC is back on the road with the PWR UP Tour. With several dates around Europe, I just had to get a ticket to see these rock giants live. Up the horns and here we go!

Very few band names are as iconic and long-lasting as AC/DC. The Golden Earring might have beat the Aussies to their 50th Anniversary, but it doesn’t make the anniversary less special. AC/DC started out in 1973 in Sydney, Australia by brothers Agnus and Malcom Young. Together with Bon Scott in the early days, the band really shaped the genre with their powerful mixture of hard rock, blue and very catchy melodies.

Unfortunately, Bon Scott passed away in the early 80s, but the band found an incredible new singer in the form of Brian Johnson. Although plagued with hearing issues not too long ago, it is great to see him back with the band rocking like never before. Although Angus is the only official founding member left, having Brian by his side since the ’80s makes it feel to younger fans, who grew up with many of Brian’s songs, like the band is still the original line up.

THE PRETTY RECKLESS

However, before the veterans of rock hit the stage, it was time for the support of the night. The Pretty Reckless is an American band from New York City that was formed in 2009. Female lead singer Taylor Momsen is a great frontwoman and is truly kicking ass. I mean, should I even write the next fact?! I guess so, Taylor isn’t only a kick ass singer, she started out as an actor and every year I watch her in How The Grinch Stole Christmas, with Jim Carrey. I’m sure she is sick of hearing this every time, but honestly I think it is cool!

The Pretty Reckless consists apart from Taylor out of Ben Phillips, Mark Damon and Jamie Perkins. I knew a few songs here before the set, but was blown away with their energy. We were treated to a 10 song strong set which included many of their bigger hits. Death by Rock and Roll, Witches Burn, Make Me Wanna Die and Heaven Knows were my personal favourites.

Honestly, I had a blast watching them play and hope to see them one day again in a full show. They were a perfect support for the amazingness that was about to start.

In a sold-out Wembley Stadium, the Aussie rock band came and conquered an excited crowd. Honestly, I had an incredible spot, standing basically at the barrier, and wasn’t sure what to expect during my first AC/DC concert. Considering the ages of the different band members, I didn’t expect the high paced energy they put on display. If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It) kicked off the set and set the tone for a hit filled night that continued with Back in Black, Demon Fire, Shot Down in Flames and Thunderstruck.

With Malcolm Young’s passing, it marked the end of an era for the Young brothers sharing the stage. However, with cousin Stevie Young taking over rhythm guitar, we still see two Young’s carrying on the legacy. Chris Chaney holds down the bass, while Matt Laug is on drums for the PWR UP Tour. The band sounded amazing together, and I think that the rhythm section absolutely nailed it.
Have A Drink on Me, Hells Bells (including the big bell) Stiff Upper Lip and Shoot to Thrill, Sin City brought so much energy in the crowd. Like for a stadium gig, I felt so much hard rocking positive energy that were all having a good time. Absolutely amazing

PWR UP TOUR

The high energy did have some moments of rest. In between songs, it felt there was a decent amount of time in which no one was really talking or being centre stage. It felt a bit odd, but maybe the fact that the concert was being filmed had something to do with it. But whenever a song was kicked off, the energy was back stronger than ever.
I loved Rock ‘n’ Roll Train, and I was jumping throughout. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, High Voltage and Riff Raff brought some 70s AC/DC back. That was before they hit us with some absolute bangers that closed the main set. You Shook Me All Night Long, Highway to Hell, Whole Lotta Rosie and Let There Be Rock. The latter included a killer solo of Angus Young, who skipped, jumped and rocked the stage like a true kid. It is incredible to see him rock out like this! He blew my mind! Brian sounded great, but in some moments seem to struggle with his breathing, that said, he is one heck of a frontman, and I’m so glad to witness these icons live.
With the confetti still in the air, the encore kicked off with T.N.T.. Last but not least it was For Those About to Rock (We Salute You), and oh boy, AC/DC do I salute you. With the guns firing on stage, I can say nothing but praise for this incredible night. AC/DC came and conquered a sold-out London. I’m so incredible happy to have witnessed this live, and I really hope the show was filmed for a DVD release!
