Former Spandau Ballet singer Tony Hadley is touring like never before, bringing a show filled with the classics and awesome new material! I caught him in Hengelo, the Netherlands for a great night!
When you think about the 80s music scene, you will inevitably come across pop sensations Spandau Ballet. This British outfit dominated the charts at the time. The band’s lead vocalist departed after a reunion in 2017 and has been touring ever since with his incredibly talented band.
Back in the day my mum was a big fan back in the day. And to be fair, she still is, so I decided to surprise her with a ticket to the performance in Hengelo, the Netherlands.

My mum and I have seen Queen + Adam Lambert live with my dad, but the two of us never went to a show together. So to see a singer who I am just excited to see with her was really cool. Growing up on the music, it is exciting to share the experience.
In true Tony Hadley fashion, the man turned up in a suit and straight away showed that he still has the voice. Perhaps him and the crowd got older, his voice didn’t show it. Starting with one of his solo songs, the atmosphere was alive straight away, but it reached new heights when some of the Spandau songs came along.
It won’t come as a surprise that songs like Gold, Only When You Leave, Through the Barricades and True that were the main highlights of the show. Hearing these absolute classics live with the incredible voice and band is amazing. However, the show was so much more than just Spandau material. Solo songs like Delirious and Tonight Belongs to Us are great songs, and highly recommend checking these songs out! In the end the 19 song set included even covers including an amazing performance of Somebody to Love from Queen.
