While employed by the importer of the BlackVue brand, I had the chance to develop compelling assets aimed at promoting this top-tier dashcam brand across the EU market. Although our primary emphasis was on the BeNeLux region, we also crafted materials for broader distribution throughout the area.
The traffic congestion increases every year. As a result, the likelihood of dangerous situations and accidents will also increase. By using a dashcam, the driver always has a reliable eyewitness with them.
BlackVue is an innovative dash cam brand with worldwide recognition. The brand is well known for being the most reliable, high-quality and groundbreaking in 1 and 2 channel dash cams. BlackVue has solidified its position as the market leader in high-end dashcams thanks to its built-in features, including 4K recording, dual-band Wi-Fi, Cloud connectivity, robust software support, premium designs, and top-notch specifications.
Between February 2018 and July 2020 I was promoting the brand within our region. In my time I was responsible for website building, creating and designing marketing assets and writing all the content. It was a great experience in which I managed to develop several skills and up my game. In this case study, I want to highlight some of several of the projects I had the pleasure of working on.
WEBSITE
When I began working with the BlackVue brand, I encountered severely outdated websites under our maintenance. Specifically, we were responsible for BlackVue-Nederland.nl and BlackVue-Belgie.be. Both of which operated on an antiquated Joomla portal prone to frequent malfunctions.
I proactively initiated the website update, creating a new and improved version where end-users can easily learn more about the brand and make purchases without encountering any issues. The lead of this project was on me and I made a plan that outlined the steps of making a new website.
The plan started on finding a better platform to host the new website on and outline the scope of moving all the content. I settled on WordPress and created the templates of how we wanted the new site to look. A lot of the old content, didn’t fit the new look and feel, and so I rewrote 95% of all the content. Over a period of several months, I worked hard on creating the new website. In July 2018 we launched the new site and web store. The old website we stored on a separate server for future reference, and the new site has been working ever since. It was great to see that since launching we saw an increase of orders coming in. As, the new site felt more secure for the end-users and just worked a lot smoother. After we finished the NL site, we worked on the BE version and created an all new German domain with all the translated content. It was quite a substantial task, yet the satisfaction of witnessing the ultimate outcome made every effort entirely worthwhile.
PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS
During my time, I was working on making the brand bigger than it was before I started. I was working closely with distributors and stores like Amazon and Coolblue to update our online content on those platforms. Building working relationships and improve the content helps greatly on the growth of the brand.
But apart from that, I was also creating the marketing collaterals. I designed the brand’s flyer and kept evolving it over time. Not only was I responsible for the writing of the content, also the design was part of my scope of work. I loved working like this, as I had a lot of freedom to create amazing materials. The original design of my first flyer was something we kept. However, we evolved it over time to have more lifestyle imagery added it into it.
With limitations of budget, it sometimes needs some extra creative thinking on how to make for example a flyer stand look great. I came up with the idea to just order some transparent displays, on which we added some stickers and a dummy unit. The stores where we placed them in absolutely loved them and it was a big success.
To promote the brand also for bigger events, we created a bigger booklet. This one included more information on the brand’s key features and implementation. Once again, the design and content was all created by me, and I’m very proud of the end result. It was a great booklet that stood out on expo’s and local events.
In my time working on this brand we also created tons of other materials, including stickers, roll-ups, safety and warranties, and so much more. It was a great to work on all these materials.
ADVERTISEMENTS
Our advertising approach involved having our products reviewed and tested by both online and offline news outlets. This strategy provided us with considerable exposure and facilitated product sales, as end-users trusted the positive reviews from reputable tech platforms. An example of this can be found in the image below.
We did publish some advertorials in big truck and car based magazines. These were a big success, and we saw more interest coming after publishing these. Once again, the content for these was written by me. It was absolutely amazing to see my words in these big magazines. The Dutch text of the Truckstar ad can be found here.
Working with BlackVue was a lot of fun and a big learning curve. Representing such a big brand came with its challenges, but overall it was nothing short of a positive experience in which I managed to create some amazing copy, designs and content.
