Let’s look back this month to one of my favorite bands: KISS. As they are closing in on the last concerts of their farewell tour, it feels fitting to have a look at what makes their shows so spectacular.
KISS
Formed in 1973 in New York, KISS quickly became known for their wild live shows. With their face paint and over-the-top outfits, they were hard to miss. But it was the blood-spitting, explosions, and fireworks that earned them the title of “the hottest band in the world”. A title they still proudly claim for the last 50 years.
Around the globe, KISS has sold over 100 million records, bagging an impressive 25 golden records along the way. Their track “I Was Made For Loving You” from the Dynasty album even snagged the number one spot worldwide. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame welcomed them in 2014, a nod to their rock legacy that wouldn’t have happened without the support of their die-hard fans, aka the KISS Army.
Now, with members Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Tommy Thayer, and Eric Singer, KISS is wrapping up their End Of The Road World Tour, bidding a fond farewell to the loyal KISS Army who played a big part in their rock ‘n’ roll journey.
ONE LAST KISS
In July 2022 I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to the concert of KISS. I saw them 3 years prior in the same arena on the same tour. However, I noticed a few weeks before that they put some new VIP package online that give you access to the sound check. My wife bought them as a birthday present and away we went.
Seeing KISS without their iconic makeup so close and personal was absolutely awesome. I had a blast seeing them and hearing them play some deep-cuts. After dodging the security that wanted to kick us out after the sound check, I managed to stay inside and grab a front row spot for the piece of the reticence. The big show with all the fireworks, makeup and hits.
This month’s Pic of the Month was shot during the first song of the set and shows some great interaction with the crowd. This show and the soundcheck beforehand were the perfect ending to my live KISS show experiences. Good luck to the band on their final shows and who knows, maybe we will see them performing solo in the future.
